Description

In this lesson, the students will learn to use new vocabulary words through various forms of exercises and listening. The lesson will start with a discussion about what people do on their vacations. This is followed by a presentation of the vocabulary where the students learn about the activities people do and the places they go to on their vacations. They will put in practice what they have learnt and finally, there will be a discussion on what they would like to do on their vacations.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of past simple in the context of holiday
  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of holiday

Procedure

Warmer (4-6 minutes) • Activate schemata, set a context and to focus on the meaning.

I will place four pictures on the board of cities they can relate too and ask them what they can do in those cities on their vacations.

Pre-teach vocabulary (5-10 minutes) • To enable students to have sufficient vocabulary to do the tasks

I will introduce the places with visuals and the verbs through miming and questions. They will then be taught the form and pronunciation of the new words.

Practice (10-15 minutes) • Practice the vocabulary learnt and the expressions with "go"

They will be asked to do exercise 1 (a) individually where they have to match the words with pictures. They will then be asked to check their answers by listening to an audio. Since they are beginners, listening can be a challenge and they might not understand it. If I see that they can't understand the audio, they will be given an answer key where they will check their answers in pairs.

Practice (5-10 minutes) • Practice the vocabulary learnt

The class will be divided into two groups and the students will be given paper slips containing verbs and places. Each group will be asked to put the paper slips under the right heading (things we do vs. places) on the white board.

Practice (5-10 minutes) • Linking places with expressions with go

There will be four pictures of cities in Turkey where they can practice the verbs they have learnt. They will be asked what they can do in those places and will be asked to put paper slips containing activities they can do under each city. I will skip 1. c because I think it will be very complicated and they might get confused as it introduces new vocabulary. It will be too much input for them in one session

Practice (10-15 minutes) • Practice writing expressions with go

There will be various cities hung up on the whiteboard and the students in pairs will have to choose one city and talk about it without saying the name of the city. The students will then have to guess which city they are talking about.
