Description

This grammar lesson introduces and gives SS opportunity to practice present prefect continuous with a focus on 'how long', 'for', and 'since'. Lesson starts with a discussion about current jobs and how long SS have been there. This is followed by GP and CP and capped off with freer practice, OCFB and DEC.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide SS clarification and practice of present perfect continuous in the context of work and projects.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation using present perfect continuous in the context of work and projects.
  • To provide SS practice listening for gist and specific information in the context of work and projects.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T Begins by welcoming SS to class T then proceeds by showing SS a picture of clocks on a wall and set context by asking them "who has a job?" " who has been at the same job the longest?" T annotates SS answers on slide

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide SS gist practice and a model of the task highlighting useful words and phrases

T- tells ss "I will send you a link via chat box. open the form. Read the text and answer both questions. you have two minutes." T asks ICQs " How many questions will you answer?" (2) "will you work alone or in pairs"( alone) "how much time do you have? (2min) OCF(3min)

Language Analysis (7-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

T begins by referencing the two sentences in previous task. T asks CCQ 'what question do these two sentences answer" T nominates ss to answer T shows Slide"how long" T says' these sentences answer 'How long ?' ,but how do we make this question' T shows next slide and explains form T asks FCQ " can i use past tense of has/have?" (no) " can i use the verb in past tense ?' ( no) T shows the sentence "how long have you been living in london ? T asks ' does the question have a rising or falling intonation?" T says 'listen carefully, "which words are linked ?' T shows two responses " if and since" T asks what info comes after since( specific ponit in time) T asks what type of information comes after "for' ( duration) OCFB if needed

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T provides SS with link to google forms task T will give SS 5 minutes to fill out the form with a partner then we will switch partners and compare answers T asks ICQ "how much time do you have?"(5mins) " what will you do once you are finished?" ( switch partners and compare answers) T separates SS into BOR T sets timer to 4 mins T monitors Once time is up, T will provide SS with answer sheet T switches SS T asks ICQ "how much time to you have?" (3mins) "will you check and discuss answers or only check?" (check and discuss) T gives SS 3 minutes to check answers T sets BOR to 2 mintutes OCFB

Freer Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice for fluency of the task language in a conversational setting

T shows Ss Answers to the last task in GP T says "ask and Answer these questions with your partner. discuss. you have 6 minutes" T asks ICQs " how much time do you have ?" ( 6mins) Who will you work with ( partner) Will you answer questions or answer and discuss >? ( answer and discuss ) T sets BOR to 5 mins T monitors Fb if necessary

Content and Language Feedback (5-6 minutes) • To provide SS feedback
