Description

In this lesson, students are going to learn and practice some new words in the context of study. The lesson starts with a vocabulary task inwhich students match the school subjects to the related vocabulary. Then, they will discuss some questions with their partner . Moreover, they will do the survey about their opinion about different subjects.

Procedure

Warm_up (3-4 minutes) • To set the scene and create interest in the topic

Students will watch a short video of 1 minute ( exam session). In this video, students are taking the exam . After watching the video, I will ask them what this movie remind them of. Then , I will tell did you like your school days.

Pre-teaching vocabulary (9-10 minutes) • To practice some new words and get them ready for the listening stage (pre-teachingvocabulary)

In this part, students match the subjects to the things they study. They do the task individually. When they finish doing activity, they will do peer check. Teacher monitors and take notes of the vocabulary they have difficulty with. Teacher hands out an answer key and give them some time to check their answers. Most of the words are known to students as they use the similiar form in Turkish. In case, they do not understand the meaning of the word, teacher explains. When they check their answer ( feedback) in pairs, teacher reads the word and ask students to repeat it ( choral drill) then nominate the students to repeat the word (individual repetition). Then, teacher asks students to find the stress on each word in pairs. Teacher gives a model. When they finish this task, teacher write the word on the board and elicit the answers from the students. If they can not put the stress correctly, she will pronounce the word and ask to find out the stressed syllable and marked the stressed syllable on the board.

Semi-controlled practice (7-8 minutes) • To prepare students ready for free practice

There are four questions. Teacher asks students to work with their partner and answer the questions about different subjects in Turkey. Students use the vocabulary they have learnt about school subjects. Teacher monitors students when they are speaking. Teacher nominates the student and ask the question. Teacher writes students' errors on the board and ask them to correct those sentences.

Semi-controlled practice (9-10 minutes) • To give students opportunity to talk to all their classmates ( mingling )

In this part, student do a survey. Give each student a piece of paper with different questions on. They go and ask the question from every one in the class. They write the answers on the piece if paper. If there are 12 students in the class, 12 different questions are given to them. At the end, they calculate the percentage of students ( or number of students) who answered yes .

Free practice (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Teacher changes the pairs . One of the pairs ask three questions from other students and then they change their roles. T model it first. eg. Is it important to learn English? Are you good at geography? Teacher monitors students and write their errors. At the end, teacher so students their pair's answers. finally, she will write the errors on the board and ask students to correct the sentences.

(If time allows) Pronunciation (2-3 minutes) • In this stage I'll focus on the words with two syllables

Students are asked to listen to words and find the stressed syllable. Then they will check their answers with their partner. Teacher will get whole clas feedback.
