Procedure (34-44 minutes)
Students are given two questions, which they discuss as a group or in BORs, according to the amount of people. After discussing for 3 minutes, conduct OCFB for two minutes to allow students to share the results of their conversation and provide some error correction if necessary. Lead-in Questions: What is your favourite holiday? Why is it your favourite holiday?
Students are told to read a sample e-mail and to check its formality and structure. After one minute of reading, they are sent to BORs for two minutes to discuss their answers. Afterwards, perform OCFB to confirm that they understand the tone of the e-mail, and reveal the sections of the e-mail. Meaning is checked by giving the students the names of the sections and asking them which name corresponds to each section. The body of the e-mail is also divided in parts to analyze its contents and purpose.
Students are prompted to analyse how to complete five sentences from different parts of the e-mail according to their grammatical structure and appropriacy. Greeting: Dear + ? (Students are expected to recognize that saying the person's first name implies closeness and informality, whereas using a title such as Mr. or Ms. implies formality) Body: I will + ? (The verb "will" must be followed by a verb in base form) Sign off: students are asked to think of formal and informal alternatives for the sign off phrase.
Students are asked to recall the holiday they mentioned during the lead-in stage and to think of things that can be done during it. They are provided with a link to a Google Slides document that has a model e-mail for them to follow when writing their own texts. They are shown the structure of the document to locate their designated slide. Use ICQs to confirm the task is understood.
Students provided with a checklist of aspects to take into account when reviewing their groupmates' texts. They are sent to BORs for four minutes to read each other's texts and analyse them based on the rubric provided. After returning from the BORs, ask the students what difficulties they had and do DEC as needed,
