Description

In this lesson, students learn new vocabularies about texting. The lesson starts with a whole class discussion. A reading and handouts will be covered. Finally, I'll finish the class with a mingling activity.

Main Aims

To provide clarification of texting and communication in the context of why all the interest in texting
To provide gist reading practice using a text about why all the interest in texting in the context of texting as a communication way

Subsidiary Aims

To provide practice of prefer to....rather than grammar in the context of texting
To provide fluency speaking practice in a role play, pair work in the context of texting

Procedure (53-90 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I'm going to draw two icons on the board and ask students some questions.

Exposure (8-15 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

We are going to talk about texting and I will pre teach some vocabularies

Pair conversation (8-10 minutes) • To concept check

I'm going to ask students some question and ther are going to talk about it with their friend(PW) and I get feedback

Clarification (8-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I.m going to teach other words and let them repeat after me

Reading part (5-10 minutes) • To gist reading

I'm going to give students the reading and let them read it

Reading Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students will do the exercises and we check in the class

Role play (8-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students two by two will talk about texting(one of them is teacher/parent, the other one is a teenager). When the time is up, I ask two of them to come and do the role play for the class

Mingling activity (5-10 minutes) • to practice grammar

Based on the grammar, students will talk to whole class.
