Procedure (40-48 minutes)
The T will say hello and make a question to review the previous lesson: You know how to talk about your weekend, right? are you tired? Lets get up So this weekend I went to a Turkish dance class. They taught me Halay semamme Show them. Ask them to dance with me.
The T will draw a timeline on the WB and say: Last Sunday I was in dance class, yesterday I was here, today I am here. While she actually put the time on the timeline. Show them in the timeline where is last Sunday and yesterday. Put them in pairs and give them cut outs for them to put on the timeline. Check together as a group.
The T will write the model sentence on the WB Model sentence I was in dance class last Sunday To explain and check the meaning, the T will ask some questions: Am I in dance class now? -No True or false: My dance class was today - False The T will drill and stress the model sentence. The T will say: I was at work yesterday The T will ask the Ss to write and a piece of paper and demonstrate and ask to the Ss to write the place were they were yesterday and put it visible on their desks. The T will try to elicit: She was at work yesterday The T will drill and stress that sentence Then ask a Ss to write it on the WB while doing some more drilling The T will try to elicit: We were at work yesterday The T will drill and stress that sentence Then ask a Ss to write it on the WB while doing some more drilling Divide them into two groups and make a sequence game. The first Ss will say: I was at the supermarket yesterday, and the second will say: she was at the supermarket and I was at school, and then the next one has to say the 2 previous sentence and their own sentence and so on.
Group them accordingly to the place they were yesterday. Groups of three. Then the T will give the Ss HO-Reading and ask them: Who was ill? and make them do a scan reading for that. Peer checking. Then ask them to read it again and answer question 1 in pairs Then they will do exercise 2a and 2b. FB
The T will try to elicit: I was not at home yesterday, and that will be the model sentence. The T will write the model sentence on the WB. To explain and check the meaning, the T will ask some questions: Am I at work now? True or false: I was at work yesterday True or false: I was at home yesterday The T will drill and stress the model sentence. The T will say: I wasn't at dance class yesterday The T will try to elicit: You weren't at home The T will drill and stress that sentence The T will try to elicit: She wasn't at work The T will drill and stress that sentence The T will write on the WB with the structure for it The T will try to elicit: We weren't at work The T will drill and stress that sentence The T will write on the WB with the structure for it Then the T will give the Ss HO-Listening and ask them: what names do you hear? and make them do a scan listening for that. Then listening again and do exercise 3 Do the FB by asking CCQ. Now the T will write on the board was not = wasn't were not = weren't The negative form of the verb to be in the past form Make the sentences of exercise 2b negative. The FB will be 3 Ss going to the WB to write them down.
The T will ask the Ss to look at the picture and say who those people are. The the Ss will do Listening 2.19 and do exercise 1 FB Do exercise 3a Do exercise 3b find someone who did the same activities as you, that is your partner
The T will give them HO-Game and the Ss will have 1 min to fill in the blanks of the HO and then they will do a mingle where they have to answer all of those questions for at least 3 other Ss.
The T will give them a piece of paper and ask them to write 5 activities you did yesterday and stick them on the board Then guess who wrote what!
The T will explain what a truth and a lie is. Divide them into groups and ask them to write on a truth and a lie about what they did on their weekend or yesterday, and the rest of the group have to guess what is a lie and what is true.
The T will give them HO-writing and in pairs they will have to write an email like the one in the HO. This is an extra activity in case we have time.
