Practice writing a paragraph form using right punctuation as well as using a paragraph form.
Procedure (61-79 minutes)
begin with a brief discussion about why capitalization is important in writing. Ask students to share examples of when they use capital letters. Write their responses on the board. Introduce the main rules of capitalization.
Present key rules of capitalization: The first word of a sentence. The pronoun "I." Proper nouns (names of people, places, organizations). Titles of books, movies, and songs (major words). Days of the week, months, and holidays.
Show students a passage with some mistakes in punctuation and correct it together on the board as a whole class work
Distribute a worksheet containing capitalization errors. Read the sheet together as a class. Ask students to identify and correct the errors. Discuss their corrections and the reasons behind each. Observe student participation during guided practice. Collect and review worksheets to assess understanding of capitalization rules. Evaluate correct capitalization use.
Hand out worksheets with sentences that contain errors in capitalization. Students will individually correct the sentences. As they work, circulate to provide support and answer questions.
