Procedure (44-105 minutes)
In this section of the lesson, I will draw a family of four on the board (the Jackson family); then, I will tell the students what this family are wearing, using the present continuous tense. Once I have finished, I will ask the students what this family is wearing, and they have to form answers using the present continuous tense.
In this section of the lesson, I will ask the students what they are wearing and they are supposed to answer using the present continuous tense. Once they have answered me, they (two by two) will be asked to ask each other what they are wearing. I will then tell them that today's grammar is the present continuous tense and that they have just used it while asking one another what they are wearing. I will then carry out certain actions (such as writing on the board, sitting or reading) to show them the present continuous tense is used to describe an action that is going on at the present moment.
In this section of the lesson, I will write the formula of a present continuous sentence on the board and provide the students with more examples such as "The sun is shining at the moment" or "You are learning English at the moment". I will then teach the students how to make negative sentences using the present continuous tense.
In this section of the lesson, I will show the students a picture of six people carrying out certain actions; I will ask them what each person is doing and the students ought to answer using the present continuous tense.
In this section of the lesson, students will be given a short text printed on a handout. Students are supposed to highlight the parts where the present continuous tense has been used. Once everyone has finished highlighting, we will check the answers together.
In this section of the lesson, students will be given a gap-fill handout; they are supposed to complete the sentences using the present continuous tense.
In the final section of the lesson, one student will ask another student what they are doing; the second student will take a look at the picture of an action I am holding and answer the first student. Other students ought to do the same.
