Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

give trainees copy of HO1 and ask them to work in pairs and guess the meaning of the abbreviations.

Check answers and understanding of abbreviations (5-8 minutes) • To provide feedback and check understanding of abbreviations.

Stick abbreviations on board. Divide trainees into two teams. Tell ss I will give a definition / explain the abbreviation and ss rush and grab the correct abbreviation. Check instructions.

Feedback (5-5 minutes) • To draw trainees attention to a appropriacy of activity.

elicit responses from the trainees about the appropriacy of such an activity - benefits and problems.

more terminology (8-8 minutes) • to expose trainees to additional important lesson planning terminology.

HO2 - cut up HO2 - put trainees into pairs and ask trainees to match the term to its definition. WCFB FB - draw ss attention to benefits and problems of activity. good - kinaesthetic / student-centred / peer support / bad - preparation time / wind / use it again?

Why lesson plan (10-10 minutes) • To raise trainees awareness to the need for lesson planning

Divide the class into groups / change pairings. Board - "Why lesson planning?" Write two heading: "For the delta" "For general teaching" ask ss to brainstorm ideas and FB - ask trainees to write ideas on the WB Delta: assessed, need to, shows progress (grading), record and evidence. General TP: professional, know / aware of potential problems, helps with instructions, time saver, record (use again), helps other teachers, good practice, FB discuss any other ideas

What should be in a lesson plan (15-20 minutes) • To raise trainees awareness of the key features of a lesson plan.

Write "what should be in a lesson plan?" Front page / procedure ask trainees to work together and discuss ideas FB1 - Change the groupings and ask trainees report to another group before WCFB FB2 - Ask member from each group to write ideas on the board FB3 - discuss ideas as appropriate ANSWERS: Front page: aims: main / sub / personal background / class profile / assumptions / timetable fit materials language analysis WB plan procedure: stage name stage aim procedure: what will T do instructions ICQs / CCQs/ what to write on the board What will ss SS do exercises interaction patterns timing feedback

lesson plan examples (15-20 minutes) • To expose trainees to good / poor examples of lesson plans for analysis

Change groupings Ask ss to read / discuss both lesson plans and discuss the merits / problems of each lesson plan. FB1: change grouping and share ideas FB2: Whole class feedback
