Description

In this lesson,students learn a bout how to form a question in the present simple using a wh. question word through a guided discovery based on a reading text about places and people. The lesson starts with a discussion about Salem , this is followed by forming wh . questions using the information about Salem. Finally there is some semi-controlled practice through the given in the table questions to ask and answer and a free practice via a final role play speaking activity.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warm Up Lead in (4-6 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through speaking

The teacher starts the lesson by dividing the students into teams , each team has a set of paper with some questions on each piece of paper facing down in the middle of each team, students take turns to choose a paper asking each other, the team who finishes his questions first is the winner.

Exposure & highlighting (9-14 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through speaking

The teacher demonstrates the grammar activity on the white board explaining how to form a wh question in the present simple. The Teacher shows the students a power point slides presenting the grammar of forming wh. questions The teacher highlight that the difference between do and does if they get any problems with them. The teacher divide students to work in pairs to re arrange the words in the correct order to make questions. The teacher asks the students to read the information about Cathy from Wild Things and answer the questions they have rearranged.

controlled practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with feedback on errors made in the presentation stage

The teacher gives students a hand out and asks students in pairs to write four questions from the table and ask each other. Students take turns and change their partner once they finished their questions. The teacher chooses some students asking them some questions The teacher provides the students with some notes then asks students to write a name of one person they know well from vocabulary exercise 1 Students use the notes to ask each other to practise the wh questions..

Productive task(s) (5-10 minutes) • to provide an opportunity to practise target productive skills

The teacher asks the students to prepare any of the questions they have learnt and choose any of the teachers in the classroom and ask them these questions. The teacher tell the students to write notes about the teachers answers if they needed. the students discuss the answers with each other
