Main Aims
-
The main aims of this lesson are 1- to improve Ss' comprehension of a text and 2- to enable Ss to convey the text other through speking.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide new and necessary vocabulary related with the texts (with ECDW)
Procedure (35-46 minutes)
- T will ask questions about the previous set of lessons Do you know "Keloğlan"? Who is he? How do we know him? Did he really live in the past? Or is he fictional?" Yesterday which fairy tales did you talk about? - Hansel and Gretal, Little Red Riding Hood etc.
- T will reflect visuals on WB - T will provide vocabulary from 3 texts with ECDW 1- bow and arrow (- What are these? - When do you use them? - Who uses them? ) CCQ - Do I use them for swimming? 2- LEGENDARY -- Robin Hood ( - Who is he? Do you know him? How do you know him? Why is he famous? He is an archer. and helps people. He is a legendary character, everybody knows his story! ) CCQ - Is he famous? Does everybody know his story? Did Robin Hood really live, or is he just a fictional character? We don't know, maybe there was a man called R.Hood in the past, maybe not. We're not sure if lived or not? 3- QUEST -- Layla and Majnun (- Who are they? Just Guess. [ (if Ss can't guess:) OK let me give you some hints: They are legendary. They loved each other so much. But they couldn't come together. The man went crazy because of his love.] He began his quest to find his lover. He was searching for his lover in the desert for a very long time. 4- TREASURE -- King Midas ( - Who is he? He is from my hometown, Gordion/Eskisehir. When he touched things, they were turning into gold. He is a legendary king. He had a big room full of golden items. He had a treasure room. CCQ - Am I poor when I have a room full of treasure? 5- IMAGINARY -- King Midas ( - Who is he? Actually, he is also from my hometown. Guess. (He is also King Midas.) Can a man have donkey ears? Is this story real? Did he really have donkey ears? No, his donkey ears are imaginary. It is a imaginary story. ) CCQ - Can I have donkey ears on my head? Can it be real or fictions? 6- COMPANION -- Don Quixote and Sancho Panza: ( - Who are they? Are they friends? Do they travel together? So they are companions.) CCQ - Can I travel alone when my companion is with me? 7- MYSTICAL -- Sufi: ( - Who is he? Sufi. So he believes in Sufism. What is Sufism? Is it a belief? Sufism is a mystical belief. ) CCQ - Is sufism mystical? Is budism mystical. 8 - INSPIRING -- Van Gogh: ( -Who is he? He moved to Arles in 1888. Why? He drew many paintings there. Arles was an inspiring place for him.) CCQ - Did he go to Arles? Did he paint a number of paintings...
- T will divide Ss into three groups A-B-C (one by one "a-b-c-a-b-c...") - T will reflect slide of ex.1 in p.24 - (What do you know about these places?) - T will distribute 3 separate texts - 1 text per 1 group - T will set a task for "Reading for Gist" - Which title is best for your text? - 1 min. will be given for gist reading - 1st Pair check, 2nd WC check
- T will distribute p.24 to Ss - T will reflect ex.2 p.24 - T will set the task "Read the text again, answer the questions with your pair" 4 min.s for reading and answering - T will monitor groups - T will ask for volunteers from groups A-B-C to write the answers on the WB
- T will re-group Ss - 8 groups - each composed of 3 Ss from A-B-C - T will set the task "Tell each other about your legendary place." - 6 min.s will be given for interaction among Ss - T will monitor Ss
T will reflect ex.4 in p.24 T will set the task "Answer the questions with your group" 3 min.s for task T will ask for volunteers to write the correct answers on the WB
- If T will have more time, vocabulary exercises on page 24 will be done. - p.24 - "Extend your vocabulary" will be reflected on WB - T will go over 1- mean 2- represent 3- symbolise - If more time available, Vocab ex.1 will be reflected on WB 2 min.s will be given to Ss, PW required Volunteers will write answers on the board
