Description

In this lesson, students learn about the "present continuous" grammar. The lesson starts with some real practices. Ss then will learn MFPA. Some moving pictures about present continuous will show, and Ss should answer by using present continuous tense. Finally a listening will play for them, and they should answer some questions.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of the present coninuouse tense in the context of I am teaching english, and teach them question and negative forms, and teach them question form, negative form and teach them question and negative forms, and teach Ss MFPA.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of the present continuouse tense by using some real activity.
  • To provide practice of the present continuouse by using a listening.
  • To provide review of the present continuous after clarification by showing moving pictures and ask Ss for answering (They should answer, and use present continuous tense).

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask one of Ss and say: “Plz stand up and walk”, and say: “He is walking”, ask two of them” Plz speak with each other”, and say: “They are speaking”, and finally say: “I am teaching”. Write the context” I am teaching English ”on the board.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Clarification (5-6 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Write meaning(M) on the board, the meaning of context, and key words that clarify the meaning of present continuous. I use time line, gesture, formula ways to clarify meaning; I, after that, do CCQ, write the form of present continuous tense (question and negative forms) and pronunciation on the board. Write F To clarify form, and write the form of present continuous. Sometimes ask them and look them for completing the form. Don’t stand in front of the board always. Change your place and look them sometimes. Write P to clarify pronunciation. Show them the stresses of the context, Read the context, and ask them for repeating context by using correct pronunciations and stresses. Show them moving pictures for elicitation, and ask: “what is she doing? How is the weather?...”.

Controlled Practice (2-3 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

write some verbs on the papers , and give them. Other Ss should make question and negative form sentences, and answer the questions. Just two or three papers are enough. Don’t say sentences yourself and elicit them, but if they have problem, help them.

Semi-Controlled Practice (3-4 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Play a listening. Give them some papers that they should complete sentences according to the listening; I, after that, ask them to check their answers two by two. Then write answers on the board, and say: “look here plz check your answers with correct answers”.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language
