T introduces himself. My name's Michael and I'm from Australia / I'm Australian.
Check SS' understanding and make WB note showing difference between country and nationality. Ask a S where he/she is from. Add country to WB record and elicit nationality. Give handout 1 and demonstrate how to complete the gaps, starting with "Australian" and "Turkish". Have SS complete the gaps. Open-class feedback.
Give SS Handout 2 (CE P11). Demo what they have to do by mnatching sentences to pictures / ICQ. S-S check. T reads the tapescript from course book and SS check themselves. Focus SS' attention on contractions. Call-out feedback. Ask SS to make sentences about each other - two true, one false. In groups they read their sentences out to each other: Task - to guess which sentences are false. Open-class feedback
T gives out the paragraph about himself. SS put a circle around the countries and underline the nationalities. T reads out a selection of sentences based on the paragraph and SS say if it is true or false. The text serves as a model for the SS who then write a similar paragraph about themselves and friends. SS mingle and read their paragraphs to each other. Round-up: ask SS to tell the whole group about some someone they spoke to.
Give SS Handout 3 (CE P12) - jobs. SS work in closed pairs to match the job to the picture. Pairs check with each other. Open-class feedback . SS to mark stress according to the T's pronunciation. Check. SS add two sentences to their written paragraph: I'm a ... and my friend's a ... T collects completed paragraphs and later distributes them to the trainees for consideration. CLOSE
