Description

In this lesson, students learn about past continuous. The lesson starts with a discussion in pair and after teaching grammar, some handouts will be given to students .After checking the correct answers, I'm going to give students some photos and they must write 1 to 3 sentences on the back, about what happened to the person in the picture. Finally, I finish the class with a freer activity(mingling activity).

Main Aims

  • To provide review of past continuous in the context of activity

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of activity
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of activity

Procedure

Warmer (3-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I'm going to set a discussion about what happened to me and other students yesterday.

Exposure (8-15 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I'm going to write different times on the board and in pairs, students will talk about it, for example what they were doing last night at 10 pm. And I will get feedback.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I'm going to start grammar with a short example of what happened to me

Clarification (8-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I'm going to teach the grammar and ask some CCQs questions.

Controlled Practice (8-15 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I'm going to give students some exercises and we will check it in the class

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-20 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

I'm going to give them some pictures and they are going to write about 3 sentences on the back of paper and describe what the person was doing(based on the grammar) and they check it in groups and talk about it. I get feedback.

Free Practice (8-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In mingling activity, they will ask small HOs questions from their classmates.
