Procedure (39-53 minutes)
T writes 'family' on the board in a bubble and brainstorms family names e.g mother, father etc.
T shows pictures of famous family one by one and elicits what the relationship is between the members?' T; 'Who is this?' Ss: 'He is Brad Pitt'. T: (showing picture of Angelina Jolie) 'She is his ....' Ss: She is his wife. T sticks pictures on WB in a family tree diagram.
T holds up labels (grandmother, grandfather etc.) to drill pronunciation then asks volunteers to stick next to the corresponding picture on the family tree.
T shows enlarged picture of 'The Murphy's family' and asks: 'What can you see in the photos?' Ss call out thoughts e.g. husband and wife, house. T distributes hand out of 'Murphy's family' with captions and ask students to answer the above question. T elicits answer by asking: 'Who is this?' pointing to the baby. Ss; 'His son'.
T demonstrates Q1. and asks: 'How old is Sean?' S: 'He's sixteen months'. T hands out question slip and asks Ss to answer questions individually. FB: T asks S to read out Q1. then a different S to say the answer. POST READING TASK T points to Donna and Martin T: 'Oxford is in England. What nationality are they? S: 'They are English/ British'.
T writes 4 names on the WB and says: 'My family'. T writes: Who is ___________ ? and points to the names to elicit the question. T: 'He is my brother'. T elicits the following questions: What's her/ his job? How old is she/ he?
T hands out blank pieces of paper and gestures 'your turn'. T: 'Write 5 names in your family'. T pairs up the students and assigns student A and B. T: 'Student A asks questions. Student B answer.' Then change, student B ask student A. T monitors. T asks volunteers to perform infront of the class.
