Description

In this lesson, students practice listening for gist and listening for detailed comprehension by choosing the appropriate main idea and ticking correct time in the context of " Day & Night ".

Materials

Main Aims

  • To practice listening for gist and detailed comprehension of a text about daily routines.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To expose learners to vocabulary related to daily routines required for the listening text

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T draws a mountain and sun on WB, tries to elicit " morning - afternoon - evening - night- a day " and sets the context.

Pre-Reading/Listening (12-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

ECDW: T tries to elicit the key vocabulary with the help of visuals and body language. CCQs : Have breakfast: Is it in the morning? Yes Do we eat chicken? No Have lunch: Is it in the morning or afternoon? Afternoon Have dinner: Is it in the morning or evening? Evening Go to work: Do we see our family there? No Go home: Do we see our family there? Yes Go to the gym: Can we eat or do exercise there? Exercise Go to bed: Can we sleep there? Yes Ss drill the new vocabulary. Ss match the the words with the pictures on WB. Ss put the activities in order on a day cline. T models and writes on WB the key language ( I think.... ) to disscuss the order of activities.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Ss work in pairs. Ss listen and decide what the listening is about. ( a. School, b. A day, c. Sports) ICQ: Are we reading or listening? Ss listen and clap once when they hear daily actions. ( have breakfast, go home, have a shower,etc.) ICQ: Do we jump or clap? Do we clap for sports? Have a breakfast - clap, Have a shower - clap, I like pizza - no clap

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ss work in pairs. T models the language ( I think.... ) and writes on WB. Ss look at the pictures. Ss disscuss and decide if the the time given for the activity T/F. ( have a shower - 7.00) Ss put a tick or cross in the boxes. Ss listen and check their answers. ICQs: Are we reading or listening? Listening - Are we writing a paragraph? No,put a tick or cross T plays the record again if necessary. T provides feedback (answer key)

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T elicits the order of words to ask the question.( Do you have a shower in the morning?) T writes the question and answers on WB. Ss drill the question and answers. Ss complete their part on the questionnaire individually. ICQ: Do we work with a friend? No Ss walk around and complete the questionnaire with friends. ICQ: Are we sitting or walking? Walking Ss talk about questionnaires.(WC)
