Procedure (32-45 minutes)
I will start my lesson by asking the students, 'What's the date today?." Then I will ask them if any one has the birthday in the month of June/July. This will give me chance to elicit about birthday presents.
I will show them a photo of Tanya and her husband and will ask them to guess what they are talking about. In pairs the learners will answer the questions: "Who they are?" "What they are talking about?"
The learners will listen to the audio R3.15 and will do a short task 1a) Then in pairs discuss what the people in the conversation were talking about. They will check if there prediction in the previous task was right.
The learners will listen the audio track R3.15 again for more details and will do exercise 9b. Then they will check answers in groups. The teacher will monitor the task and will see if most students are able to finish the exercise. If not, the audio track will be played again.
The structure used in the conversation will be explained. The use of "shall" for making and asking suggestions will be practised. Then how to respond negatively and positively to a suggestion will also be explained or elicited. The meaning, form and pronunciation will be explained and practised.
In pairs the students will solve a gap fill exercise and then will practice using the functional language they have just learnt.
The teacher will elicit the list of some of the popular presents given on birthdays. Then in group of 4, the students will ask and give suggestions about any particular present. Then they will draw one present of their choice and will give it to any other student in the class. The teacher will get feedback and do delayed error correction.
