To provide accuracy and fluency when using Object Pronouns and Subject Pronouns in pairs controlled conversations.
Procedure (45 minutes)
Draw ss attention to the animal pictures and ask ss if they like animals. (Yes, I like them / No, I don't like them). Group ss in 6 groups of 4 (have ss grab cards with 6 different names of animals. Give ss the pre-task of reading the text about cats. Have student read the text and ask them what is the text about (1 minute). Project the texts (WB eliciting object as part of sentence - material). Refer to the 1st text (first 4 sentences) Underline "them" and ask -Who are "them"? (The cats) - circle "the cats" Emphasize: - "them" means "the cats. Underline "They" and ask -Who are "they"? (The cats) - circle "the cats" Move to the next paragraph of 2 sentences. Elicit "cats" and "they" as subject of the sentences Underline "cats" and ask - Who does the action of the verb in a sentence?(the Subject) -Who is the subject in our sentence? Who doesn't need to go for a walk every day? (Cats) -So "Cats is the Subject -Who is the subject in our 2nd sentence? Who doesn't need to go for a walk every day? (They) -So "They is the Subject Elicit Subject Pronoun. -What is "They" as part of speech? Is it a verb? An adjective? (It is a Pronoun) -Then "They"is the Subject Pronoun. Move to the last 2 sentences. Elicit "cats" and "them" as Object of the sentences Underline "cats" and ask - Who is the action of the verb done to? Who do they like? ("Cats" is the Object) - Who is the action of the verb done to? Who do they like? ("them" is the Object) Elicit Object Pronoun. -What is "them" as part of speech? Is it a verb? An adjective? (It is a Pronoun) -Then "them" is the Object Pronoun of the last sentence Elicit word order Write "People like cats" and underline the words. Write "Subject Verb, Object" under the appropriate word. Emphasize "Object comes after the verb" Elicit and drill pronunciation. Write "People like them" and ask ss to read it. Put the stress sign (small square) on "them"
Give instructions: - Work alone -Fill in the gaps (3 min) - You have different Handouts ((Handout 1A and Handout 1B Give ss different handouts in the same group of 4 (Handout 1A, Handout 1B, Handout 1A, Handout 1B) Monitor and collect errors. Write the errors on the WB, Close the task. WC FB at the WB Ask: Student A reads his handout to Student B (30 sec) Now Student B reads his handout to student A (30 sec)
Give instructions -In these sentences, 6 people are talking about their dogs. - Work in your group - Circle the correct option (3 min) Make demo at the WB Monitor and collect errors.Write errors on the WB. Say -Check your answer in pairs -1 student from Dogs group check the answers of one student from "Cats" group (cats with dogs, horses with camels, dolphins with tigers) Close the task. Discuss errors at the WB. (don't give all the answers as ss are going to listen the answers on the CD) Say: - Listen to the CD and check your answers (track 1.67)
