Procedure (35-45 minutes)
T elicits a story about a lady who doesn't have a phone and has to write e-mails in order to get in touch with her friends.
T elisits the spelling rules of present participles. This is followed by a controlled activity where the students in pairs are supposed to correct mistakes in the text.
The students skim an e-mail. They are supposed to find out who wrote the message and what the author wanted. The students are asked to find mistakes in the text and correct them (2 mistakes on misspelling present participles). This is followed by a pairwork when students need to find pieces of specific information in the competitive way. Then T introduces the TL by eliciting words and expressions which are required to write an e-mail.
Sts randomly choose penpals to write an e-mail to. T sets the aim to invite a friend to go out by means of writing an e-mail and elicits the TL. Students choose the place they would like to go out with their penpals and write a short message containing invitation
Students exchange the e-mails. Peer-checking is conducted. After that the students respond the e-mail by accepting and declining the invitation
