Main Aims

  • to develop clarification between present perfect simple and past simple

Subsidiary Aims

  • To develop fluency in the context of shopping

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

this part starts with a sentence : do you like shopping? how often do you go shopping? to lead sts to the topic. then sts are going to look at photos about the context of shopping . i'll give them time to answer the questions about the photos and before answering the Qs i'm going to use ICQ. i monitor them from distance i give them feedback

Test #1 (5-7 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

sts are going to choose the correct answer to find the correct form of the p.p for each verb. i use ICQs to know they understand what should they do or not . after answering the questions they're going to check their answers with each other. i monitor them and listen to them i write the correct answer on the board . give them feedback

Teach (7-8 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

i'm going to show them 2 sentences (one is present perfect and the other is past simple) in the context of shopping. they're going to guess the differences between them. i'm going to use CCQs to elicit the meaning, form and prononciation of each sentence .

Test #2(controlled practice) (4-7 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

i'll give them a question with present perfect form(have you ever bought or sold sth online?) and i give them 2 structures (yes i have and no i have not... because ). they can get help from them and answer the question. i use ICQ and give them time to answer the question. i monitor them from the distance and give them feedback

Free practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

i'm going to give them a main question ( have you been to a chain store recently?) and sub questions like ( what did you buy, where did you go, are you happy with it ) they're going to answer the questions individually. i monitor them and check if they need help, i'll help them with a word they're searching for. they're going to talk about their answers one by one. i'll give them feedback

Error correction (3-5 minutes) • to correct sts's mistakes and praise their efforts

i'm going to write a sentence with error on it . i'll ask sts to think in pairs, and find the error i'll write the correct answer on the board. i'm going to praise their effort to show them they made progress.
