Description

In this lesson, students learn to talk about different cultures and traditions based on a reading text.It starts with a brief speaking part.After teaching new vocabularies,the text will be covered.To ensure students' comprehension, a short question will be done.Finally, some handouts will be given to students as a speaking part for freer practice.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of Celebration in the context of Traditions in different countries
  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about Let's celebrate in the context of Traditions in 3 different countries

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Conversation in groupd in the context of Traditions

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I'm going to write a topic on the board and let students brainstorm in order to engage them with the target language and lesson. I want to create a funny and creative atmosphere.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I'm going to ask students different questions but they are going to talk about in groups. Finally I will get feedback.

Exposure (10-20 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I'm going to pre-teach new vocabularies. Students are going to repeat after me.After teaching vocabulary, I'm going to give them the reading handouts and they have time to read it for themselves.

Clarification (8-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I have provided some handouts as a gist task after reading. Students have time to do it then we are going to check the answers. If it's needed we will refer to the text for the right answer

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-20 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

I have provided some pictures about different traditions. Students are going to guess the country and the reason of the celebration in group. Then each group will tell the whole class about their thoughts. Finally we'll see which group could guess better and had more correct answers.

Free Practice (8-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students are going to talk together as a role play. All of them must think about a celebration. One of them is a tourist who is asking different questions about the celebration, and the other student is giving explanation about the tradition or celebration. Students are going to change their roles.
