Procedure (35-45 minutes)
T divides Sts into two teams and lines them up in front of the WB. T conducts the 'snapping game' - Sts are supposed to snap the word (vocabulary from the previous lesson) which corresponds to its definition.
T elicits a story about a sad man who accidentally found himself in Newcastle upon Tyne
Students in groups discuss what they might know or guess about Newcastle. T elicits ideas about its size, population, nightlife, popular sports etc. Sts fulfill the table about features they know and do not know about this city.
Sts are given HO 1. Within 1 min they read the short text about Newcastle, compare the facts with their ideas written on WB. T conducts FB. Sts match the places with the map of Newcastle. T checks pronounciation of new words, drills if necessary, practice word stress.
T continues the story about the Sad man lost in Newcastle. Sts listen for gist. This is followed by a short WCFB. Sts given HO 3. They listen to the audio again (listening for specific information) and tick the places girls had been. T conducts short FB.
T conducts brief WCFB.
