Subsidiary Aims
-
To practice speaking (accuracy) using regular plurals
Procedure (46-25 minutes)
Using the PPT, ask Ss 3 quick questions about myself. Ss may remember the answers from the previous class.
Provide Ss with the gap-fill handout to see what they already know about regular plurals. They will work individually, and I will not give feedback. Ss will put it aside and it will be reviewed at the end of class.
Provide Ss with the HO, folded in 3 sections. Section 1: Give Ss the vocab from page 7 and 107, get them to group the words according to the regular plural endings. Give them a few minutes to try, if they don't understand write "book" "bus" and "city" on the board. Solicit the plural forms for these words, write them underneath and possibly underline the "s" "es" "ies" if deemed necessary. Section 2: Ss are given the three list of pluralized nouns categorized by "s" "es" "ies". Ss must look at the groupings and spot the pattern, they may discuss with a classmate. Section 3: Ss are given the rules for pluralization, Ss put the words into the appropriate section
PW, but with different partners than before if practical. Assign each Ss A or B. Give each pair cards face down. A picks card, says "a passport", B says "3 passports" ect. I monitor and correct.
Ss write the plurals for the same words. p. 107. Get Ss to come to the board to write the answers.
Ss check their gap-fill activity from before and correct the incorrect ones. Students check in pairs.
One Ss at a time comes to the front, looks at the picture on the PPT and shouts the plural word. Student throws a ball of paper at one of the targets on the board: "S" "ES" "IES". T checks with other WC to see if they were correct, then next student tries.
