Procedure (38-49 minutes)
Greet students and ask them about their experience and opinions regarding online piracy.
Listening task for gist in which students count and classify the speakers according to their opinions and provide their own opinions of the speakers' words. Followed by OCFB
Listening for detail task in which students must identify and write down the verbs used for certain sentences, which gives them isolated examples from the audio in which the second conditional is exemplified. Individual work followed by checking in pairs and OCFB.
Use CCQs to establish basic facts about the second conditional such as its structure and usage. Present four sentences that exemplify affirmative, negative and interrogative sentences, as well as different configurations in which the second conditional can be presented. Through CCQs, confirm if students understand the context in which the second conditional is used. Explain the syntactic elements of second conditional sentences.
Students are given three half-sentences to complete creatively using the structure of the second conditional. The work individually for four minutes and then check in pairs for five minutes, before OCFB.
Students are presented with three hypothetical and provocative scenarios to discuss with each other and practice the structures learnt during the lesson. Followed by OCFB and error checking.
