Description

In this lesson, S.s will learn about superlatives with a small revision on comparatives in context of describing families through a P.P.P lesson. Speaking for fluency will be targeted as a sub-aim in this lesson.

Main Aims

  • S.s will discover and practice superlatives in context of describing family.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation using superlatives in the context of describing family.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

After saying hello, I will speak with S.s about my family as I'm from a big family, and I will ask them how many people in your family. After that I will ask them to stand up and make a line-up from the smallest to the largest family. before setting them in a line i will use the board as a visual and ask where some one with many people to make the I.C.Qs . After setting them in a line, I will start to give C.C.Qs I will pretend that I have the largest family and say " I have 10 people in my family" do any body have 10 people in his/her family ? (no) so, I have the largest family. I will ask them to set in a line from the tallest to the shortest. and I will ask : " Is semeh very tall? " (yes) "any one is taller than him ! " (no) So, Semeh is the ............... (tallest).

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

As my mate will expose some of the target language in her lesson, I will just remind S.s with it to activate them and ask them " Do you remember the reading with Alev ?" yes" "Ok, Check in pairs what do you remember about it ? ". I will give S.s some sentences from the article that include superlatives and ask them to answer the questions on the board.

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

After giving them the sentences, I will write 3 questions on the board. and ask them to answer it, After that I will check their answers with clarifying superlatives and tell them the meaning of it " it describes differences between three or more things" after that I will move to the "Form" regular and irregular with different endings and focus S.s on Ex.2, They check in groups of three after that i will clarify the pronunciation mainly with Stress to ensure that S.s will produce speaking appropriately.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

In Ex.1, S.s will have a chart of adjectives,comparatives and superlatives and they will work in pairs to fill the gaps in the chart. After that I will check their answers as a whole-class.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

In Ex.2, S.s will use the adjectives in Ex.1 to fill-in the gaps, S.s will answer individually after that S.s will check in pairs.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

This will be a speaking exercise, S.s will discuss together about their families using the superlatives given to them.
