Description

In this lesson the students are going to try and practice the story writing skill in the context of memorable events while travelling. They will be doing process writing. They will be provided a topic sentence after which they ask the teacher different questions to figure out the story. Then they are provided the audience in the form of a magazine that is holding a story writing competition. They write the story and check across pairs for feedback.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T engages the Ss by asking them about their favourite holiday places T keeps the context of traveling Ss are asked why they like different places

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T tells the students a few things about his memorable vacation T writes three statements on the board Ss are aked to find the one that is true Ss work in pairs to find the answer

Useful Language (4-6 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T answers the students' questions During the questions answer session T lets the students discover what language they need to use

Productive Task(s) (20-22 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Task 1: Students talk in pairs in the target language and try to form questions to guide them to the teacher's story. (3 min) Students start coming to the teacher and ask questions one by one while the other partner in the pair takes notes (4 min) Task 2: Based on the information gathered by questions Ss try to figure out the story (3 min) Teacher encourages the students and gives them a few hints to correct their language if needed. Task 3 T gives the students a good news by showing them the advertisement of a story writing competetion Ss are asked to compose a story in groups Teacher focuses on the word compose to talk about the order of ideas in the story T reviews the features of a good story and asks them to talk in groups to see whether they know what to do and how to do Ss are given 10 minutes to come up with a good story

Feedback and Error Correction (6-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T asks the students to pass their stories to the pair next to them and in this manner they check and correct the errors they find in the respective stories Ss vote for the best story T picks the story he thinks is the best T corrects errors if there are any
