Procedure (40-51 minutes)
T shows the pictures of a family including old parents Elicits the words from students T asks a few middle aged students whether or not they are living with their parents T asks the students whether they love their family or not T asks the students what is that they like the most about the foreign family values and asks them to talk for a minute or so
T plays the audio track Ss listen to the listening text to get the general idea of each monologue Ss match the options for the general idea with the relevant speaker Ss listen again for details and answer questions
T tries to guide the students to meanings of the vocabulary items. T asks CCQs to check on the students understanding before drilling for form and pronunciation T Drills with class in WC and PW T gives a gap-fill HO to let students do controlled practice
Students are given guiding questions to talk about their child hood beliefs and responsibilities They talk in pairs In feedback they report back on the information they have learnt from their partners Ss are asked to talk about any changes in expectations or beliefs after becoming adults In feedback students compare the respective changes from childhood to adulthood in groups Ss are guided to a semi-controlled speaking activity They are spread in small groups and discuss the questions given on a worksheet While monitoring T observes closely whether the target vocabulary is being used or not In feedback T asks the Ss randomly to talk about what they like and what they don't in their cultural attitudes to families Ss are shuffled from one group to another to encourage sharing of newer ideas from new partners Ss are asked to talk about their ideas concerning family attitudes in other cultures T recounts a few beliefs from his own culture to give a tempo Ss contrast and compare in groups Ss are divided into two groups. They are asked to gather arguments for a debate arguing "whether adults should be expected to live near their parents or not?" They are given 3 minutes to gather points in respective groups groups Then they are spread in pairs choosing one participant from each group They are asked to talk and convince their partner
After the freer practice activity T highlights the observed mistakes while monitoring T checks for any misunderstandings and makes clarifications by correcting T gives a review of the target language by eliciting from the Ss
