Description

In this lesson SS will have the chance to learn how to chat about friends. It is a good opportunity to learn as well as practice casual conversation. They will learn when to use "hear about, hear from, tell, say" when talking about other people's affairs.

Materials

Abc Fill in the blank handouts, role play cards, email text handout.

Main Aims

  • Practice Speaking about friends and other people.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Before their listening, will make up a personal story about a friend of mine getting a job in Brazil to introduce the theme of chatting about friends.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Will ask them to talk about: - If you have a problem, who do you talk to? - If a friend of yours has a problem, what do you do? - Will play Course book Audio 3.8

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

- Ss will have to identify and answer the questions 1.What was Hussein's problem? 2. What happened in the end? 3. Where was Hussein flying to? Why?

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Role Play - Groups of 3. They will pretend to be friends of Frank's and talk about his problems at work. Will distribute role play cards. 1. talk about people you know: Did you hear about Frank? 2.Summarise what people say : He told me that he wants to... 3. Report speech directly: So he said, What do you mean?

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Ask Ss to tell the whole class about the activity and personalise it to make it more real and lively. Read Frank's email to close the lesson.
