Description

In this lesson students in the vocabulary part, are going to learn about different kinds of verbs in conversations between people (argue, complain, scream......). As for the reading part, students are going to read a text to get a comprehension view about the text and answer some questions related to the text.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of different kinds of conversations between people. in the context of Truth and lies.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about gossip in the context of Truth and lies.

Procedure

Warmer (2-3 minutes) • To welcome the students and regrouping them

- Give students numbers from 1 to 6 - Ask them to sit down with the same number. - For example: number 1 on one table, 2 on another table.........

Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To review some verbs of communications.

- Write three false sentences about myself. - Ask one student to come and make role play. (arguing and shouting) - Ask the student to go and speak with his/her friend. (whisper and complaining) - Tell the class that they are making gossip about me. - Then I will shout to express my anger with them.

Clarification (5-7 minutes) • To help them learn the meaning, form and pronunciations of the verbs.

- At each stage I will put one verb on the WB. - After I finish I have 7 verbs on the board. - They repeat the pronunciation after me. (WC, GW, Peer-student) - Hide one paper and ask about the missing verb of communication.

Semi-controlled exercise (8-10 minutes) • To improve their understanding of vocabulary part.

- Handout - ICQS - Monitoring (interfere when needed) - Feedback (PW, GW and WC) - Listen to a conversation 1B, 3.1. Page 86. - Matching with 1a, Page 86. - Monitoring - CCQS - Feedback the second task.

Pre-Reading (2-3 minutes) • To prepare students for the text.

- Ask CCQS about gossip. - Ask if they interested to know some facts about gossip. - Write the title (The truth about gossip) on the WB.

While-Readind (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with a reading for scann

- Read for scan - Monitoring - Discuss with PW the idea. - CCQS - Task missing words. - Feedback - Do task 3a, Page86 - Discuss the answers in GW. - Whole class feedback.

Post-Reading (7-9 minutes) • Expand on what they've learned

- Do with pairs task 4, Page 86 - monitoring - interfere when necessary. - Feedback
