Teaching Practice
Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To make sts understand how we give an advice in the target language.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide clarification of how to use "should" for giving advice
Procedure (25-40 minutes)
-I will start the lesson by telling the sts "Today, I want to introduce you to one of my friends." Then I will draw a picture of her on the board. This will be a fat, an unhealthy and a lazy girl. I will write some information next to the picture. * drinks five cups of coffee every day * eats junk food * smokes two packs of cigarette every day * doesn't study her lessons (English - 30p / Maths 20p / History 45p) * doesn't do any sports -Then together with the sts, we will describe what kind of a life she has. We will transform the details on the board into sentences.
-When we finish talking about her life, I will ask "Does she have a healthy life?" -They will say NO! So, I will ask "What are your advices for her? What should she do" -I will give them time to discuss with their partner. -After some time, we will start to discuss the advices and I will write them on the board. *She should do sports. / She shouldn't smoke. / She should study hard.......etc. -So, they will understand that we use "should" when we want to give an advice.
-Now I will show them the cards I have prepared before the lesson. -On the cards there are some problems of people. For example, *on the first card "I don't like my job" is written. * on the second card "I have lost my friend's book." is written. * on the third card "I'm bored at home." is written. * on the fourth card "I want to improve my English." is written. * on the fifth card "I have a headache." is written. -I will choose a st and he/she will come and pick a card. Then, all the sts will try to give some advices for that situation.
