Description

In this lesson the students are going to learn some new vocabularies about rules of etiquette. They will focus on comprehending the text.

  • To provide clarification of polite behavior in the context of Debrett's Guide to Modern Dilemmas

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher starts talking about his experience regarding a rude thing he did as a child. He wants the students to talk about their memories and experiences where they did something impolite.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

In this stage the teacher is going to teach the students some key vocabularies of the text using some pictures to help them learn better. The students are going to fill the gaps with the words that they've learnt. They are then going to check their answers with the class Monopolize - Etiquette - Recline

While-Reading #1 (1-2 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The students are going to answer the question: What kind of advice does Debrett's publish? They are given about 2 minutes to read the first paragraph and share their answer with the class.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The Students are going to read the text deeper and answer some True or False questions related to the text. They will check their answers with the whole class.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The students are going to be divided into groups of 2 or 3 and what rule of etiquette they would change if they could? Why would they do that?
