The teacher starts her class by telling the students how she started her day. it took her 1 hour to get there because she got stuck in a heavy traffic. she tries to elicit some information on the topic by some CCQs. She wants her students to say the word TRAFFIC.
There is a video for the students to see. The video is about a traffic jam in Japan. the teacher gives 1 minute and the students watch it carefully. then they work in groups of three and talk about whatever they have seen. When the time is over, they exchange their ideas in pairs and check what other students have found. in the end, they raise their hands and tell their ideas to the whole class.
As a pre listening activity, the teacher tries to teach some new words and expression through eliciting and checks her students understanding through concept check questions. The teacher has the pictures of the book on a slide. She shows the students the pictures and gives them time to discuss what they see. she conducts WC feedback. She wants to check her students' background knowledge and prepare them for the main listening activity.
Students will listen to the track and put the previously shown pictures into correct order. They hear 4 separate conversations and say which picture is for which conversation. In this task they are listening for gist. after they do their job individually, they compare it in groups and the teacher conducts WC feedback. As another while reading activity, the teacher plays the track again and students should listen carefully to say if the written sentences in their handout are True or False. The second exercise is done in pairs and the feedback checking is by the help of the projector.
The teacher flashes back to one of the slides containing three pictures related to the words she taught her students. She tries to attracts her students' attention by personalizing. She asks them to practice in groups and say if Istanbul has similar problems or not. She conducts feedback as soon as she notices the students are finished. by that time the students should be able to use the related terminologies and talk about the real situation in their own country. They should be able to create a link between what they learn and what they experience in reality.
