Then the students work in groups/pairs to answer these questions: (Teacher will either project or write them on the White board) Have you ever won anything? If so, what did you win? Do you think people are born lucky? why?/why not? Teacher pre-teaches the difficult vocabulary. intuition:( u ) noun | ˌɪn.tjuː.ˈɪʃ.n̩ | instinct, the ability to know or feel something before it happens. optimist:( c ) noun | ˈɒp.tɪ.mɪst | someone who believes good things will happen. volunteer: ( c ) noun | ˌvɒ.lən.ˈtɪər | someone who does a job without being paid.
The teacher chests the text and gives these instructions: *Read the article to find the suitable main heading. *You have 1 minute to finish the task. *Are you working alone or in groups? *Do you need to understand every word to write a heading? Teacher asks the whole class for feedback. Any suitable heading is acceptable. (Learn to be lucky) EX 1 in the HO: The students will be given 3 minutes to find specific information for exercise one in the handout. After that they check their answers in pairs. While the teacher is monitoring he will find out if they need feedback or not.
Students will go through more challenging tasks. In exercise 2 in the handout they will need to scan the text to find the synonyms and match them with the words in the table. They will be asked to work in pairs in order to save time. The teacher will give the students the answer key as a feedback. For exercise 3 the students will be given 6 minutes to read for details and answer the Wh. questions. Teacher checks with the students for feedback.
The teacher initiates the debate by asking the students if they agree with Dr.Wiseman or not. The students will work in two groups. One group is for the writer and the other is against. They will need to justify their opinions and give reasons. Then the teacher exchanges the groups' roles.
