I hate Flying - Reading

Description

Students will learn about the strategies of reading they will scan and skim the text for gist and specific details . they will have some controlled practice and a free speaking practice related to the topic . students also will have some clarification about the language the meaning ,form and pronounciation.

Materials

Abc put in the correct order strips . answer questions HO . Projected pictures .Marker.White board

Main Aims

  • Students will be able to scan and skim the text for gist and specific details.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide students with productive skill ,students will practice speaking related to the topic , I hate flying.

Procedure

Lead in : (5-10 minutes) • To review why some people love traveling and some don't

Tr . starts the lesson with a story about flying to introduce students to the reading text . Last year I travelled to Paris after half an hour the captain announced that the plane was kidnaped . There were many people in the plan ,old ,young ,men and women even children . People started shouting , crying ,they didn't know what to do .They were scared some were about to die. In the middle of that disaster the captain announced again . This time to comfort the passengers , he said " we are very sorry the man is holding a unreal gun" Tr. asks students what would they do if they were in the same position? Tr. asks students to work in pairs and answer the 3 questions : 1.Did you travel to another country last year? 2.When did you travel? 3. Where did you travel?

Clarifications • To review the meaning form l and pronunciation to the target language .

Tr. will write the following sentences on the board . I like flying . elicit from students some similar sentences from the text . tr. asks about the meaning . when you like something does it mean that you love it . "yes" When you like to do something , do you enjoy doing it ?"yes" Tr. writes s+v+ v+ ing . Tr elicit more examples from the text which have the same structure . Tr. drill the sentence have students repeat chorally ,individually and in groups.

Controlled practice (6-8 minutes) • To prepare students to the more meaning practice .

Tr. Asks students to work in pairs and the 3 questions . 1. Do you like flying? 2.What do you like ? 3. Do you like swimming? After they answer the questions tr asks them compare their answers with their partner . Tr. gives the feed back by asking to of the students to come to the front of the class ask and answer.

Skim the text for a gist • To give students the opportunity to read quickly for the general idea.

Tr. asks students to work in groups , read the passage quickly and put the event in the correct order. Tr. asks about group feed back that every group will go to another group and check their answers.

Scan for a specific details . • Students will have the opportunity to comprehend and look for details .

Tr. asks students to work in 2 groups . "Jigsaw reading " the 1st group will read paragraphs , 1 and 2. The 2nd group will read 3 and 4 . Each group will be given 3 questions to answer . The feedback will be group check. Wc feedback.

Post reading " productive skill speaking" • Student will have the opportunity to practice the target language through speaking.

Tr. asks students to work in pairs and practice speaking . What about you? What do you think of flying ? Do you know some body who is afraid of going on plane ? Students will practice in pairs and they also when the finish the can go to another pairs and practice "ask and answer questions"
