Materials
Main Aims
-
Students will be able to use the prepositions "down," "past," "under," and "through" accurately in spoken sentences.
Subsidiary Aims
-
Students will be able to identify the correct prepositions in given sentences. Students will be able to use the prepositions in simple conversations.
Procedure (27-35 minutes)
Watch a video about Prepositions and review previously learned words.
Read another short story or poem that uses the target prepositions. For example: "The squirrel climbed down the tree. The car drove past the house. The cat crawled under the bed. The ball went through the hoop." Ask comprehension questions about the story, such as: "Where did the squirrel go?" "What did the car do?"
Point to objects in the classroom and say sentences using the target prepositions. For example: "The book is under the table." "The pencil goes through the hole." Have students repeat the sentences together.
Race to put 3 hoops on your teammate: In this game, students are divided into three teams. The teacher presents a picture on a PowerPoint slide and a sentence with one incorrect word. When the teacher says "Go!", students on each team race to place three hoops on a teammate. This teammate then races to write the correct sentence on a board or paper, grab the sticky ball and say "Finished!" The first team to complete all these steps with the correct answer is the winner.
Chopstick Cup Race: In this game, players compete to be the first to collect all five cups using chopsticks. The teacher will display a sentence with one incorrect word on a screen. Players must identify the error and write the correct word. Once the correct word is written, they will race to collect the cups using chopsticks. The player who successfully stacks all five cups first is declared the winner.
