Pre-Intermediate level

Description

In this lesson, students will have a chance to improve their reading skills through the theme of tourism. There will be vocabulary practices as well, related to the reading text.

Materials

Abc Reading Text

Main Aims

  • To provide students to have an understanding of the texts that they are reading in the context of tourism.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency while speaking about their own experiences that they had while travelling.

Procedure

Warmer (10-12 minutes) • To introduce the theme of tourism locations to the students.

The teacher greets the students and starts to talk about his/her experiences about travelling. After giving some suggestions to the students about these places, the teacher wants students to write down 5 places they they want to visit in the future. Then students mingle and walk freely asking questions to each other about these places. After the chatting part, students takes their seats and teacher asks randomly if they have found anything interesting about other students' answers. After finishing this part, teacher wants students to work in pairs and give answers to the ex. 1.

Reading Part (20-25 minutes) • To introduce the reading text to students and want them to read and understand

Teacher shows the picture of the place from the related text and asks if any of the students know the place. After that, teacher talks about the text, give some information about it and write some vocabulary on the board and draw the pictures if possible or explain the words by using signs and gestures. After a quick study of lexis teacher wants them to read the text and answer the questions in ex. 2. Then the teacher wants students to check their answer in pairs and the teacher gets the answers with WCFB from students. After that teacher wants students to do ex. 3 and get WCFB.

Post-Reading Part (5-7 minutes) • To make students to talk about the related topic and share some ideas to each other

After reading the text and answering the questions about it, teacher divides the class in small groups and wants students to talk about the negative effects of tourism in Istanbul. After discussions teacher asks WC to talk about their ideas.
