American English File 2, B1 level
Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide clarification of passive voice in the context of inventions
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of environmental issues.
Procedure (18-23 minutes)
I will ask students to name some famous inventions. Then guess which of the inventions are invented by women.
I will show them a 6-minute video about those inventions and after that we see if they guessed them right.
I will write some active sentences from the the video on the board and then write the passive form of them under them. Then asked them about the part of the speech.
First I will ask them if they can tell me which part we are focusing on in active sentences(the doer). Then I will explain when to use passive voice. They will be told that in passive voice, we focus on the action or the object receiving the action rather than the doer. Then I will explain the structure of the passive voice and finally, I will tell them about the negative form.
I will ask them to do the given task in pairs and in two minutes. The answers will be checked with the whole class after that.
I will ask students to work in pairs to write 3 sentences about environmental issues, using both the present and past passive voice. I will give them an example before they start working. The example: "Plastic waste is recycled in many countries."
