Description

In this lesson the students will read about the CEO of Burberry. The lesson will focus on reading , vocabulary and speaking as a subskill

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading about the CEO of Burberry and her hobbies in an article about her written from a business point of view.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of vocabulary related to company and family within the reading text.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

A picture is shown underneath boxes as ppt. The students are asked to guess the picture. Once they guess Burberry, the teacher writes Burberry on the board and tries to get ideas from Ss as to what they know about it. She tries to elicit luxury, fashion and expensive. Anticipates problem: The ss might not have enough knowledge about Burberry. Solution : The T compares Burberry with Chanel and mANGO. Problem: The ss might not know vocabulary. Solution: Quick transition to vocabulary grouping activity ahead.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The ss are given vocab. ex. 1 In pairs, They are asked to group 10 words according to ttles: family, company, food and meeting. (3 min.) They finsh and are asked to come to the board and write the answers. WC feedback. Clarification of vocabulary. Problem: The ss might find vocab. too difficult to group. solution: let them try and give clarification of each word as wc fb.

While-Reading#1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading task.

The Ss are given the reading text. T asks to read it quick and fill the table. When complete they are asked to check with peers. WC FB. PROBLEM: Text might be too difficult to understand Solution: Tell that total understanding is not necessary for each word.

While-Reading#2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

The ss are asked to read the text again in pairs. They are given ex. 2 and need to answer true or false. Pair change for peer checking. Whole class fb on the board.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Speaking, the Ss are asked to write 5 qs in pairs. Then they go around the room ask their qs to different people. They can't access reading when answering.
