Description

In this lesson, learners learn about future forms ( will + infinitive, present progressive, be going to + infinitive) through a series of exercises.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of future forms - will+infinitive,present progressive,be going to + infinitive s in the context of problem solving

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice in listening for detail
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a role-playing activity
  • To ensure oral accuracy and develop pronunciation skills

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • Link the lesson to the previous lesson

Introduce myself. Remind students of the phone calls in the previous lesson and elicit what happened to establish the context. Ask students about future forms.

Exposure (7-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a matching exercise

Give out ex1. Ask Ss to match the sentences and check their answers in pairs. Ss peer-check. Take w/c FB.

Clarification (9-10 minutes) • To clearify the meaning and form of the target language

Give Ss CCQs to make sure they've reached a good understanding of the new future forms. Ss in pairs discuss possible answers. I ask Ss to come to the whiteboard and correct the errors.Take w/c FB - deal with any questions about the CCQs/ tips. Elicit positive and negative future forms

Highlighting (4-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Focus Ss on ex2. Ask Ss to work SOLO. Play recording 1.46 for them. Check answers.

Controlled practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and clarify the pronunciation of TL

Focus Ss on ex3. Ask Ss to work SOLO and write down what they hear. Play recording 1.47 . Write 3C on WB. Check answers with WC. Produce sentences and Ss repeat after me. Focus Ss on WB. Practice saying the pairs. Make notes for common errors.

Semi-controlled, Free practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and provide some personalisation

Ex4. Ss work in groups of 3. Speech production. Monitor and help when needed.Monitor to see if they can peer-correct any errors. If there is time put errors on WB from monitoring. Take FB.
