Procedure (43-56 minutes)
Ask the Ss to brainstorm what young British people do in their leisure time. The Ss work in small groups. Get a few ideas. Play a youtube video about the topic and ask the students to check their guesses. Take w/c feedback.
Pair the Ss. Provide each pair a set of flashcards and a set of lexis cards. The Ss match the flashcards to the verb-noun collocation cards. Get w/c Fb. on the w/b. Model and drill where necessary. Put the Ss into small groups. Ask them to brainstorm what young Turks do in their free time. Take a few ideas.
Show a photo of Paul taken in Antarctica. Ask the Ss some questions to brainstorm in pairs. eg. what is his job? where is he? who are Erin and Alice? Get a few ideas. Play the recording and get the Ss to circle correct answers. Take w/c FB on the w/b.
Provide each student a verb-noun collocation handout. Ask the Ss what Paul does in his free time and get them to choose four activities from the handout. Ss work single and then compare their guesses with their neighbours. Get a few ideas. Ask them listen and check their answers. Take w/c FB. Elicit consonant and vowel letters on the board. Elicit linking between consonant and vowel sounds. Write down a few sentences onto board and highlight linking words. Then model and drill. Provide each student the tapescipt of the recording. Get the Ss to find consonant-vowel linking examples in pairs. Play the recording and ask the students to check their answers. Get w/c FB on the w/b.
Ask the students to tell about their free time activities to their partners. The Ss work in pairs. Get a few ideas.
