This is a productive lesson with a primary focus on speaking.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a coversation in the context of hometown

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for describing places/ past experiences in the context of their hometown

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will begin by introducing myself or reminding them of where I was born, where I currently live and where my hometown is. I will tell them I've been living in Morelia for about 5 years. I will ask questions such as "where are you from" "what is your hometown" or " does anyone live somewhere different than where they grew up?"

Exposure (2-3 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

I will briefly describe my hometown and give 1 reason why i like it and 1reason why i do not like it. and one thing i would change if i could.

Useful Language (2-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Useful language for describing my hometown is: "My hometown is..." "It's located in..." "It’s known for..." "One thing that stands out about my hometown is..." Asking About Someone's Hometown: "Where are you from?" "What’s your hometown like?" "Can you tell me about your hometown?" "What is your hometown famous for?" Sharing Opinions and Experiences: "I like my hometown because..." "I don’t like... because..." "One of my favorite things to do in my hometown is..." "There’s a lot to do in my hometown, such as..."

Productive Task(s) (5-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

SS will be paired and asked to discuss 1 thing they liked about their hometown, 1 thing they hated, and 1 thing they would change if they could. SS will discuss among themselves first and then we will discuss as a group. I will ask ss closing Q's such as if they would return to their hometown and what is one thing they miss about their hometown.

Post Lesson (2-3 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

We will react to and personalize the topic by asking questions such as "what is is one thing you miss about your hometown ?" and enable ss to engae in conversation about past experiences as a cool down. i will thank them for their time
