To provide SS listening for prediction and detailed listening practice using throughout the audio 'How to spot a liar'
Subsidiary Aims

To Pre- teach unfamiliar vocabulary that are going to be used in the audio.

To provide SS some speaking practice to build and reinforce the context for the listening.
Procedure (33-48 minutes)
- T will ask to see If SS knows about pinochio, and about his story' and try to get the SS' attention to the context. The T will get SS talk about pinochio for a while to set the context. -Then T will ask SS to work in groups to discuss some questions. 'When do you think it's ok to lie?', Do you think you are good at lying?' Why/ Why not?, 'How can you tell if people are lying?' - T will give each group 3 minutes to discuss and then feedback with W/C.
- SS will be working in groups for this practice. - T will give SS some slips of paper- One will contain the words and the other one will contain the meanings. - SS will be given the A/K after they finish.
- SS will be working in groups. - T will show four different pictures to SS and ask 'İf the person is telling the truth or lying in each photo?' - SS will focus on the photos and they will discuss it in their groups for about 2 minutes. - T will tell SS that they're going to listen to an interview with Dr. Miriam Richards who is a body language expert to find out which photo is lying and which one is telling the truth. - SS will listen individually to find out. - Then the W/C F/B will be given.
- T will be given HO's and asks them to choose the correct words/phrases in these sentences. The time limit is 2 minutes for this activity. - Then T will play the audio again for SS to check if the SS get the right or wrong answers. - Then SS will check in pairs to see what other peers did. - The answer key will be provided.
- T will ask SS If they can recognize the difference between a British and an American accent to warm them up a bit. - T will give SS HO's which has some words on it. T will give a minute for SS to check the words in 1-5. T will make sure to point out the letters in bold. - After that T will tell SS that they are going to listen to how we say these letters differently in a British and an American accent. - They will hear the British accent first. - T will will show a few of examples from the words, and write them in phonemic letters. Example: hot- in British : /hɒt/ in American : /hat/ saw - in British : /sɔː/ in American : /saː/ aunt - in British : /ɑːnt/ in American : /ænt/
- The students will work in groups by given the British and American flags. - T will ask them to listen an audio which they are going to hear a British and an American accent again. The SS will listen it once and decide which accent they hear first as a group. - Then they will listen again (The T will pause after each pair of sentence for SS to raise their flag for which accent they hear first.) The group who raises a flag is ending up saying the whole sentence with the accent they hear.
