Description

In this lesson, the students are going to encounter two different types of present tense, Present perfect and present perfect continuous. In the lesson the teacher is going to explain the structures for the tense, how it is used, the timeline and some exercises at the end to make sure all the students get the points out of the lesson.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of The present perfect continuous in the context of Achievement

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide contrast between present perfect continuous and present perfect simple

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will work in small groups and have a short discussion with each other. The questions they will be asked are below. What do you do everyday? Is there anything you have recently finished? (a book, a project, etc.) Have you begun anything new?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Displaying the pictures of the people in the conversation T plays an audio (2.9) about an article in SB which is related to the content ( p 76) . Ss should listen carefully to find out what each person ( Vanessa ,Rodney ,Min-hee ) is doing these days and discuss it in a group of 3 , each S is one of the characters and report it to the group .T will name S in each group

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ss will be asked to read the article and find out which structure is specifically used to describe the action started in the past & it still continues . T asks for some examples in the text and writes them on the board

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T continues the lesson by showing the Ss the present tense. -T first talks about the present perfect continuous -T shows the timeline for the present perfect continuous and explain for Ss how it is used in sentence -T shows the structure of present perfect continuous -T shows some examples about how to use since & for - T review present perfect and clarifies the difference between 2 structures mentioned

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T asks Ss to answer the EX. B (complete) in the book p 77 - ask Ss to check their answers in pairs- ICQS: are you going to do it individually ? yes -share the answers in the class

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T asks Ss to answer the EX. B (complete) in the book p 79 about present perfect and present perfect continuous - ask Ss to check their answers in pairs - provide them with the key answers

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students get in pairs( or group of 3) to talk about things they have achieved or have been achieving during this months. Instruction: You will need to share with your partner achievement yo have reached, and 3 achievement you have been reaching during the last 2 months or the things you have been doing to achieve your goals. e.g. I have finished my literature course, I have been doing my Celta course. ICQS: Do you have to talk about your future plans ? No- T will nominate students to ask other students loudly to share some of the answers
