Description

In this lesson students learn about holiday activities through speaking.The lesson starts with a video and a question 'Guess where I was on holiday in the last year?' about this video.It is followed by pre-teaching some words by using pictures,demonstrations about them through eliciting.The second is a controlled activity that will be implemented by matching these words with the pictures..This is followed by a semi controlled activity which students will try to explain and guess the words through a taboo activity.As a freer activity,the ranking activity will be implemented and the learners will choose their dream vacation place and rank them.(Back-Up)Connected with this ranking activity,the lesson will be finished with drawing their dream holiday and talk about their dream holidays in pairs.

Procedure

warmer-lead in (3 minutes) • To get students' attention by watching a video

-T starts the lesson by showing a video made up some pictures to create a context about holiday.Then she asks 'Guess where I was on my holiday in the last year?' -Thus, teacher gets the students attention to topic.

(Getting Ready for Speaking)Pre-Teaching Vocabulary (10-12 minutes)

-The teacher starts by releasing the topic of the day.The topic is 'Holiday Activities' to give some kinds of holidays.. -She has also pictures about the kinds of activities on holiday..These pictures represent the vocabulary to be taught by eliciting.It will be helpful to get their attention and give an idea on the tasks we will be covering during the lesson.

Controlled Activity Through A Matching Activity (5-8 minutes) • To provide the students understand the correct meaning and get them to discuss in pairs.

T tells them work in pairs.Then ss try to match the words with the pictures which they have learned in the last step.(As the first feedback)After they finish matching,all the students stand up and check the answers of the other groups.Then she gives answer keys to the students.

Semi Controlled Activty 'Taboo Game' (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T divides the class into 2 groups.Each group has 4 members and each group has 12 words.While they are playing,teacher monitors and check the them.When a group finishes first,the game will be finished by the teacher.

Freer Activity 'Ranking' (3-5 minutes) • To expose the students to speak fluently

T gets ss work in pairs.T gives instructions 'What is most important for you in a hotel? there are 5 ranks to fill and put this list in order if importance.Then she uses ICQ 'how many things will you rank?' Then ss put them in order and discuss with their partners.

(Back Up) Freer Activity (5-8 minutes) • To change the atmosphere class and make ss relax through speaking for fluency activity

T gets them to close their eyes and imagine you are away from Istanbul.You are on holiday. 'Now open your eyes and draw your dream holiday firstly and your partner will try to guess where you are!
