Main Aims

  • To review simple, continuous, perfect and passive tenses in the context of General Knowledge
  • To review the use of short answers in the context of getting information

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation and a discussion in the context of general knowledge

Procedure

Warmer/ Lead-in (9-12 minutes) • To get Ss talking to each other from the very beginning

Set Ex 1 P.6 Ask Ss to form questions using the answers provided in the Ex. Monitor Ss closely and assist when needed. Ss check their answers in pairs. Ss work in pairs to ask and answers questions to get to know each other well. Ss share information about their partners with the WC

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a knowledge Quiz

put Ss in pairs to do the quiz. Ss listen and check their answers. review the answers with the WC.

Highlighting (4-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ask Ss to look back at the quiz and find examples of the tenses. Ss work in pairs and check their answers. Promote early finishers to write the answers on the board. Check the Answer with the WC.

Language Focus (9-10 minutes) • to clarify meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Ask Ss to find and underline the auxiliary verbs and answer the Questions in pairs. Elicit the form of the tenses with the students. Draw Ss attention to the pronunciation of the auxiliary verbs in the connected speech. Ss answer the questions, check in pairs then T checks the answers with the whole class. As a follow up Ex, Ss create their own general Knowledge quiz Put Ss into groups and answer the other groups' questions.
