Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of language used for making decisions, to choose the right person in the context of a space colony.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice expressions about why a person is suitable or not.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will see a picture from a space colony and they need to talk about what they see, about who are this people, what are they doing there and why.

Context Preparation (4-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading

Students fill out a chart in Jamboard with the following categories: things you would need to bring and what kind of people you would need with you. They compare their answers with the group. Feedback.

Useful Language (13-15 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Students will see the text just as a reference, the situation will be explained, then the students have two minutes to see the candidates information. The expressions in Useful Language to explain why people is suitable or not is explained (MFPA): - He/she would be suitable because... - There might be problems with.... - We need someone who can... Students will give examples in group.

Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students write in Google Forms some examples from the expressions exposed before. They share their results for the group.

Free Practice (5-6 minutes) • To allow students to use freely the useful language between them and choose a person to start a space colony.

Students choose who is suitable for the space colony and how is not. They will discuss their ideas in pairs, then with the group.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Check the expressions that where used in a wrong way or discuss posible solutions.
