After greetings, class can be started with this question: 'Other than class, what do you plan to do this week?' Show calendar visual: this week I plan to... finish CELTA, Skype with friends, teach some classes. You have one minute. Tell your partner what you PLAN TO do this week!
A gap-fill with 8 different verb combos... "Fill this out individually. Some questions have more than one possible answer." Please leave it folded! ICQ - Are you going to work together or alone? Is there only one possible answer for each question? Then, they can peer check, and answers will be projected, unless there seem to be enough problems to warrant doing WC FB and more practice. (If necessary the semi-controlled practice could be made more controlled, but this shouldn't be needed.)
Using the second part of your HO, talk to your partner about the 6 different scenarios. Each person try to think of 2 or 3 sentences to share about each scenario! ICQs Now, please turn over your HO A couple examples as a brief WC FB
Everyone needs a coin, then we will form groups of 3-5. Each group will get a game board, and they will flip a coin. (On whiteboard) 'heads' = move 1 space; 'tails' = move 2 spaces If the group does not think a sentence is correct, they can ask the person to say a new sentence! T monitors, collecting errors for FB time later. http://www.azargrammar.com/assets/intermediate/FEGExpansionActivities/FEGExp13.pdf
Regroup! Switch partners by counting off sets. Now, we are going to play cards in groups of 2-4. (Project instructions, after explanation.) Ss will get 2 sets of cards, on different color paper. The verbs on the first set should be followed by a gerund or infinitive word from the second set. Everyone will have six cards in their hand (three of each color). When it is your turn, make a sentence with two of the cards in your hand. Then put those two cards in front of you. If you can't make a sentence, exchange one of your cards. If the other players don't like your sentence, they may challenge it. Whoever gets the most pairs wins. Again, T monitors with errors and exceptional examples collected for FB. http://www.teach-this.com/images/resources/gerund-or-infinitive-card-game.pdf
In a minute, I'm going to ask you to stand up and talk to each other about something you’ve tried doing to improve your English. Try to collect a list of 3 or 4 new ways you might be able to improve your English. (You can write them down.) ICQs - What are you collecting... how many...
