Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about Coffee in the context of Breakfast habits

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a Role play in the context of Breakfast

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show photos related to topic. Ask students to discuss their experience of topic in pairs.

Pre-teach Vocabulary (7-7 minutes) • Go over vocabulary students may not know

Make a list of vocab anticipated to be a problem for students Go over MPF.

Reading for Gist (8-8 minutes) • Give students an idea of the topic

Have students read the text quickly to get a feel for the subject matter. Then have them discuss in pairs what they think the text is about. Give 1-2 minutes to discuss answers with the class.

Reading for Detail (10-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Have students read the entire text in a detailed fashion.

Post-Reading/Listening (10-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Have students respond to questions regarding the text. Have them do it in pairs so they have the opportunity to discuss the text together. Then give the students a chance to give their answers to the class.
