Procedure (40-40 minutes)
Warmer/Lead-in (4-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students
To show students a breakfast menu from the diner and ask them to circle anything they ate in the past week.
Pre-Teach/Vocabulary (8-8 minutes) • To help students with blocking language.
MFP
Reading for Gist (8-8 minutes) • To have students practice reading quickly for gist.
To provide students a medical article about the effects of coffee.
Reading for detail (10-10 minutes) • To provide students with more reading practice and the chance to more fully comprehend the content.
To provide students with T/F questions to answer while reading article for second time.
Productive Task (10-10 minutes) • To reinforce oral fluency on the topic.
To have students role play as waiter and customer at a breakfast diner and talk about reasons why they need coffee, incorporating some of the new vocabulary from menu.
