Main Aims

To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about coffee in the context of breakfast habits
Subsidiary Aims

To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a role-play in the context of breakfast habits
Procedure (40-40 minutes)
Warmer/Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students
Ask a question related to the text. Have students think of their answers, then confer in pairs to compare. check to see their answers
Pre-teach vocabulary (7-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible
Go over vocabulary words and elicit meanings through gestures /descriptions
READING FOR GIST (5-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks
Have students skim the text for an overall meaning, alone. Pair them to check their conclusions, then elicit feedback.
Reading for detail (15-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks
Have Ss read the text again for specific information and details. Pair them to check their findings.
Post-Reading/productive task (8-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned
Elicit feedback on text. Ask Ss to expand on what they read in pairs. Nominate someone to share.
